The Covid 19 pandemic has highlighted a divide in technology access. The majority of our students were not able to participate in distance learning where available, because they lacked the electronic device necessary. A number of devices were provided for students in the community. These were allocated to those who are most in need. As schools have reopened the need for devices remains in various areas. In a digital world, keeping our students equipped to learn should be of utmost importance. As tablets and chrome books become available  throughout the school year, students in need will be identified and matched for a device.

In August of 2019, a back to school programme was launched. Listening to parents in the area, most agreed that school shoes was one of the more costly items. Approximately 100 students were assisted with school shoes at the beginning of the school year. In 2020, school supplies and backpacks were provided for 120 students.

Approximately 100 students were assisted with school shoes at the beginning of the school year. In 2020, school supplies and backpacks were provided for 120 students. 

During the last 2 years I visited schools throughout the division.   I met with teachers, handed over books, supplies and  hundreds of masks for each student as they prepared to reopen during the pandemic.
